The Shed / Art Studio
I feel having a dedicated Art Studio "friendly space" assists our creative thinking.. enhances our focus & productivity of quality "works"... while providing a feeling of accomplishment & is the foundation in which to build "artistic networks" & enjoy our individual creative art journey..
Each day I aim to paint & can be found with a "board or canvas" on the "studio easel"... palette knife in hand & the smell of "gum turp's" & oil paint is in the air!!... also my two companions... our "Aussie Terrier's"... Tess & Digger are at my feet...

When holidaying in the remote outback regions of the Northern Flinders Ranges SA or the outback of the Broken Hill region NSW... I aim to paint "plein air"... "studies / sketches" of the remote landscapes.. capturing the glorious warm colours of "reds" / "oranges" & the brilliant "purple" desert shadows..

There are a lot of beautiful places in the world... but the South Australian & New South Wales remote "outback" landscapes... provide the magnificent "huge" open skies.. showcasing the bright.. clear desert atmospheric light.. complimenting this is the rich brilliant "sunburnt" desert colours of the "red" / "orange" & "purple" shadows of the earth & rocks... this is what inspires me!..
"It's what I know & paint!"
Australia is a country of vast un-spoilt.. "ancient timeless" landscapes in which to paint & enjoy! Add in.. Australia's amazing "First Nations Indigenous History" & you have endless subjects in which to paint!
A relaxing scene of "Morning Warmth" by the "Camp Fire".... a "Billy of Tea" & spending quality time with a mate for a "yarn" to commence the day..

A wonderful narrative & outback landscape scene of "Master Artist" Albert Namatjira sitting in the "tranquility" of nature.. painting with "water colours" his beloved colourful textured land of "dream time" stories..

"Walk about"... showcases "hunting & gathering"... this is a painting highlighting the "survival" of our country's proud "First Nation's Indigenous People" who live "on country" in the remote outback of Australia..

"Initiation" is the proud culture of our "First Nations Indigenous People" - Initiations are performed with young Aboriginal men in the remote regions.. known as "secret men's business"..

The journey of our creative "art trail" is an amazing one! Along the way I had the privilege to meet & "sit in" with numerous artist's who freely shared their time & knowledge.. but most importantly I was privileged to be remotely mentored by "Master Artist" Mr. John Winter Pickup OAM.. (member of the "Brushmen of the Bush" fame - "Silver City" of Broken Hill NSW) I would like to share some of the "learnings" of my "art trail".. many of which are marvellous "quotes"..
"Initially.. you need just a little knowledge" - but then need to do lot's of.... "Paint Brush Miles".... "Paint & Paint & Paint some more & just enjoy the Journey"!! (credit: "Master Landscape Artist" John Wilson - Katoomba - Blue Mountains Australia) Art is certainly the "language" of the Heart!!... develop your skills.. gain experience & create your own "individual style" that becomes "recognizable".. Making mistakes along the way is a positive experience & a major part of learning!!
*In addition to painting the remote Australian "Outback Landscapes" I am also focused on painting ANZAC War compositions of "Remembrance" for our Military Services...
